The Armed Forces Interest Group (AFIG) is an initiative of the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation that works to establish a framework for a regional collaborative effort to provide on-going financial and volunteer support for the San Diego military community.
AFIG is a group of community members who share the vision of working with others in the county to raise charitable funds to assist the men and women who serve in the armed forces. AFIG is our effort to provide assistance to the military and their families, during active service and after, if necessary, and to help with their re-integration into civilian life. AFIG is committed to a goal of providing sustainable financial and volunteer support to the San Diego military community and dedicated to increasing the awareness of the issues surrounding the stresses of war.
- AFIG is dedicated to increasing the awareness of the significant needs of armed services personnel and their families.
- AFIG is a resource for promoting volunteer support activities and encouraging regional involvement.
Many currently serving in the armed forces have served multiple combat tours, while their families have endured long separations and the unique challenges associated with repeated deployments. The goal of AFIG is to provide funding to established nonprofit service providers to enhance the quality of life for junior enlisted military personnel, wounded warriors from any of our nation’s conflicts, and their families. These marines, sailors, airmen and soldiers and their families embody a spirit of service for others and are a most needed resource for our nation’s future.
The Wounded and Fallen Warriors Fund provides assistance to military personnel from all branches of the service, and their families, who have been wounded or killed in the line of duty. Grant distributions are made to charitable organizations whose mission and services support the needs of wounded warriors, their families and veterans.
The Armed Services Family Support Fund–San Diego provides assistance to military personnel from all branches of the service, and their dependents who reside in San Diego County. Grant distributions are made to charitable organizations whose mission and services support the needs of junior enlisted personnel and their families.
The AFIG Fund for the USO was established to benefit the USO-San Diego. For forty years, the USO-San Diego has been serving those who serve our nation. With two locations in San Diego, the USO Downtown Center and the Neil Ash Airport Center, more than 100,000 military pass through these centers annually.
The AFIG Discretionary Fund was established to provide immediate funds for discretionary requests.
