2012 Grants
Barrio Logan College Institute - $5,000
The Giving Back Project partners 6th graders with WitKids and 10th graders with Outside the Lens. WitKids is a standards-based, student led service-learning program. Students design and launch projects that will benefit their school, community and the world. Outside the Lens is a youth media literacy program (Picture it Healthy)with students learning about healthy eating and active lifestyles, with photo documentation, and culminating with recommendations to the City Council for improving health outcomes for Barrio Logan.
Kids’ Turn San Diego - $20,000
Kids’ Turn’s primary focus is to provide services to reduce conflict, increase communication and maintain a supportive, cohesive environment for families experiencing major family upheavals such as divorce, separation, legal actions, military deployments and changes in custody arrangements. The online component to their award winning prevention and psycho-educational workshops allows Kids’ Turn to provide services to all families looking for support.
The Tomorrow Project - $20,000
The Tomorrow Project provides individualized work-readiness training opportunities for homeless and very low-income women within the context of a business/product assembly environment. The curriculum caters to the unique attributes and learning challenges of homeless women. The women are taught appropriate work habits including punctuality, teamwork, quality control, work-site demeanor, communication skills, goal setting, and how to follow directions, dress appropriately, and take instruction from a supervisor.
San Diego Hospice - $15,000
Children’s Bereavement Services provide a variety of counseling services to children and grandchildren of patients prior to death including individual counseling, art therapy and family counseling. Grief Street provides grief and loss support to the family as a unit and to each age group. Camp Erin combines a traditional high-energy camp experience with grief support and education.
2011 Grants
Barrio Logan College Institute – $20,000
The Countdown to College Project, which prepares BCLI students to successfully transition from high school to college.
Natural High – $20,000
Natural High 360 reaches youth with the natural high message and ways to live naturally high and reject drugs in every component of their life—in their schools, with their friends, in the community, and at home.
Shakti Rising – $18,000
The Partnership Youth Resiliency Project improves the health and well-being of at-risk youth in the San Diego community in collaboration with partner agencies.
Urban Youth Collaborative – $20,000
School Beautification Day provides needed grounds and facilities improvements for schools serving youth at-risk. Motivational School Assemblies are interactive, multi-media presentations emphasizing empowering and inspirational stories of young people who have overcome significant obstacles. Project 25 is $100 challenge to 50 student clubs that will work in concert with a supervising adult, putting the money to work in a way that makes a difference for their school, community, city, or world.
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito – $5,000
Keystone Clubs are character and leadership clubs for teens ages 14 – 18, which help teens develop an understanding and appreciation of ethical standards as they cultivate leadership skills.
Second Chance – $20,000
The Urban Garden Project supports the work of the JOLT (Juvenile Options for Lifelong Transitions) program.
Interfaith Community Services – $20,000
The Transitional Youth Academy provides comprehensive case management, behavioral health, vocational, educational, and life skills support to at-risk youth so that they can make a successful transition into adulthood.
30 for 30 Grants
In recognition of the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation’s 30th Anniversary, 30 San Diego area nonprofits were selected to each receive a $1,000 challenge grant from the Foundation. In return, they were challenged to raise an additional $29,000 from their donors and ours. Over $850,000 was raised in recognition of RSFF’s service to the region.
