Over $100,000 awarded in grants to Supporting Our Heroes partners

Renewed partnerships with local nonprofits

At the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation (RSFF), we firmly believe in giving back to the brave men and women who serve our county and their families. Consequently, we are proud to announce the renewed grant partnerships with six local nonprofit organizations. These one-year grants, which will be expended in 2025, represent our commitment to the large military community in San Diego.

A Longstanding Commitment to Military Families

For over 30 years, RSFF has been committed to addressing the critical needs of our military community. With this latest round of funding, we’re tackling some of the most pressing issues that impact military families, including affordable childcare, financial wellness, strengthening family connections, and the transition from military life to civilian life.

Ben Moraga, RSFF President and CEO, shared, “These grants address the urgent needs of military families and veterans, as identified by military leadership, service members, and the nonprofits supporting the community. By assisting with childcare, financial education, family connections, and the transition to civilian life, we can make a meaningful impact.”

Organizations Making a Difference

  1. Armed Services YMCA San Diego (ASYMCA)
ASYMCA supports military families by offering childcare and youth programs. This grant supports the expansion of a new center, allowing them to double their capacity and provide more affordable and quality care for military families.
  2. Foundation for Women Warriors
This organization focuses on supporting the growing population of women veterans. Their programs offer childcare vouchers and economic well-being services to help women veterans and their children during the transition to civilian life.
  3. Social Advocates for Youth (SAY) San Diego, Inc.
SAY’s Military Family Resource Center connects families with resources like childcare and basic needs. The program serves hundreds of military families each year through parenting classes, playgroups, and more.
  4. Support the Enlisted Project (STEP)
STEP offers financial counseling, education, and direct support to military families facing financial struggles, including food insecurity, homelessness, and mental health challenges. Their services aim to help families regain stability and thrive.
  5. United Through Reading
For 35 years, United Through Reading has been helping military families strengthen their bonds by reading together—no matter the distance. This grant supports their ongoing efforts to bring military families closer and boost children’s literacy and emotional well-being.
  6. Zero8Hundred
Zero8Hundred provides peer-based support to service members transitioning from active duty to civilian life. Their compassionate, evidence-based approach helps families navigate the challenges of this important life change.

Continuing Our Commitment to Those Who Serve

Ben Moraga summed up the Foundation’s commitment by saying, “As our service members continue to face challenges related to military life, we remain dedicated to providing essential resources that enable our veterans and active-duty personnel to thrive.”

By focusing on sustainable solutions and supporting organizations that provide long-term benefits, we are proud to continue making a positive impact on military families across the region. These grants are just one part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that those who have sacrificed so much for our country receive the support they need to succeed.
