Does the Foundation accept all kinds of planned gifts?

We accept gifts of cash, appreciated securities, life insurance, real estate, charitable remainder trusts. See Planned Giving at a Glance for more information.

Can the Foundation be named a beneficiary of my IRA or other qualified retirement plan?

Yes. As of January 2016, up to $100,000 per year can be gifted, tax free, from an IRA into an endowment at the Foundation. This endowment could ultimately be named as the beneficiary of your entire IRA through a planned gift.

Does the Foundation handle charitable gift annuities?n

No. We do accept charitable reminder annuity trusts.

May I place my name or the name of a loved one on the fund that is created?

Yes, and it will remain in perpetuity.

Can my planned gift remain anonymous and still fulfill my wishes?

Yes. The Foundation is committed to honoring your anonymity at all times.

Can I make a planned gift into a donor advised fund for the benefit of my heirs?

Yes. And if there are restrictions as to purpose or annual distribution, they must be irrevocably specified at the time the planned gift is finalized.

What does the Foundation recommend that I support?

Although the Foundation understands that a planned gift is a very personal decision, we encourage donors to consider placing some or all of the planned gift into the Community Impact Fund. This fund was created to give the Foundation absolute discretion in how the funds can be mobilized out into the San Diego County community to address the most critical issues at any time.

What roles do my financial advisors play in my decision?

Very important roles. Your advisors will guide and advise you about the best options within your estate plan. The Foundation will work with you and your team on how to execute this plan.

How do I become a member of The Legacy Council?

Once the Foundation is made aware of an irrevocable gift, you become a member.

What are the benefits of membership in The Legacy Council?

The satisfaction that you have made provision for the Foundation, a specific charity or issue of choice during your lifetime; this is a gift that will keep on giving.nnIn addition, there is an annual gathering of Legacy Council members and additional opportunities throughout the year to learn from professional advisors about new developments in the area of planned giving.

About Our System Downtime

We are very excited to announce that we are moving to a new fundholder portal that will improve user experience and overall functionality. The setup of the new system will require some transition and there will be downtime as we move from the current DonorCentral system to the new fundholder portal.

RSF Foundation fundholder portal will be offline from May 27 – Mid-June.
