How We Invest Charitable Funds

For over 30 years, the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation has provided exceptional investment stewardship of charitable funds. After beginning modestly in the early 1980’s, the Foundation has enjoyed significant growth in recent years. The assets support an ever broadening array of activities that ensure the effectiveness of the Foundation’s mission in the present and the future. This is all thanks to our donors, most of whom reside in local communities of Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach, Del Mar and Encinitas. It is the philanthropy of many generous donors that provides opportunities for all of San Diego County.

The Investment Committee of the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation Board of Directors makes asset allocation decisions for the Managed Pool of assets at the Foundation. This diversified portfolio of assets is invested in indexed mutual funds at The Vanguard Group. The Managed Pool is designed to support a distribution rate of 5%, while at the same time increasing the value of the corpus at a rate greater than inflation, net of grant distributions and expenses.

The following documents provide current investment allocation and performance data. For further financial information about the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation, please see our financial reports.

Our Mission

At Rancho Santa Fe Foundation, a San Diego community foundation, our mission is to connect donors with regional and global needs through visionary community leadership, personalized service and effective grant-making.

We’re proud that our donors and community are served on a local level. Many of our donations are provided by residents of the Coastal North County San Diego, which include Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar, Solana Beach, and Encinitas. In return, we work to give back to communities in need throughout San Diego County.
