The Patriots Connection (TPC), a program of the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation, is committed to honoring and supporting the members of the San Diego military community for their service to our nation. TPC has awarded over $1 million in grants since 2009 to San Diego nonprofits that serve the military community. In 2015, TPC granted $97,500 to ten nonprofits in four categories of support to North County and San Diego Non Profits.
Basic Needs
These San Diego Non Profits help the military community meet basic needs:
Camp Pendleton ASYMCA – Fischer Children’s Center provides short-term childcare.
Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank – Provides food to more than 28,000 active duty military, their dependents and veterans every month.
Support the Enlisted Project (STEP) – The Emergency Financial Assistance program assists military families with past due bills.
Education & Jobs
These San Diego Non Profits assist the military community with educational needs, attaining jobs and work programs:
Easter Seals of Southern California – WorkFirst Military & Veterans Services provides transitioning veterans in San Diego County with one-to-one customized employment support.
Workshops for Warriors – Provides a 16-week machining/welding program for military service members transitioning out of service.
Physical & Mental Health
Non Profits in San Diego working with the military community to meet physical and mental health needs are:
Kids’ Turn San Diego – Peak Performance Family Classes build empathy and understanding and teach new coping and communication skills to both parents and children.
Resounding Joy – The Semper Sound program provides music therapy for military service members with physical and psychological diagnoses related to combat stress and trauma.
Social & Personal Connections
San Diego Non Profits supporting the military community with social and personal connections in the community are:
Fleet Week San Diego – Honors and celebrates active duty Sailors, Marines and Coastguardsmen.
USO San Diego – Provides Thanksgiving Dinner at the Airport Center for traveling military service members and boxed meals at Duty Stations for those on duty watch.
Wreaths Across America – Wreath-laying ceremonies at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and Miramar National Cemetery in December honor our veterans and remember our fallen heroes.
Non Profit organizations serving the military community, may become eligible to apply for 2016 TPC grants by completing the questionnaire for being listed in The San Diego Directory. As part of the TPC program, The San Diego Directory is a resource for identifying trustworthy and accountable San Diego Non Profits providing services to the military.
